Roma - Capitol Hill

This is looking toward the new Rome, the Forum or old Rome is behind the City Adm. Building. The building and design was by Michelangelo. The main st. is Via Del Corso and leads strait between the two buildings ahead too Piazza Popolo, where the north gate  for going in and out of Rome stands!

This is Capitol Colonnade at top entrance to building! The picture of Marlene on the right  gives you and idea of the magnitude of the columns!

A choir & orchestra were rehearsing a T.V. special the day we were there. They say a picture is worth a thousand words? Marlene & Flag! This was a fun day for us!

Below, a view out over the city, the Church Cathedral in foreground is St. Mary's.

Not sure what they are guarding? The edifice is beautiful!

Behind the Capitol Building, just before you enter the Forum is the Mamertine  prison. It essentially was a hole carved out of the lava rock. It had a small hole cut in the top for ventilation & to lower food etc thru. It was believed that the Apostle Paul might have been held here, before being executed?
